Case Study: IT Strategy & Governance
Scenario: Our TTG experts have conducted business stakeholder assessments and established business priorities by which IT organizations have been successfully reorganized and aligned. We have developed and implemented a portfolio management process, to set up and maintain priorities of the clients' various initiatives and documented them in a technology "road map." We have also implemented a service catalog to allow IT to capture and track the business value of its services. The result is an IT organization much more in sync with the business it serves - and much more able to focus on and secure funding for truly strategic projects.
Symptom: Annual IT costs were growing 12% while sales were flattening 9% and projected to drop by an additional 3%.
Problem Statement: The cost of IT no longer could be understood in the context of business goals and financial objectives.
Issue: IT spending authorization and realized cost were growing without a direct correlation to business income.
Solution: Established a Total Cost of Ownership view of IT cost and created a spending Governance process which included documenting and agreeing to automated feature/function cost and business benefit (revenue growth or cost reduction) metrics. By performing a detailed assessment of current state technology against automated feature/function, cost and business benefit (revenue growth or cost reduction) decisions were made to consolidate, eliminate and/or expand systems.
Outcome: Achieved 12% spending reduction over a 3 year period (3% year 1, 6% year 2 and 3% year 3). This spending reduction positioned the executive leadership team to achieve the needed go forward direct cost/benefit value correlation.
